CDS(Combined Defence Services) Exam:
The Combined Defense Services (CDS) is conducted twice a year by the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy.
It is conducted by the Union Public Services Commissions (UPSC) and enables the aspirants to apply for the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Naval Academy.

The Combined Defense Services exam is held twice in a year in the months of February and November. The examination Notification is usually released in the months of October and June respectively.
Only unmarried graduates candidates are eligible to sit for the exam. Successful candidates are joining into the respective Academies after an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).

• Negative Marking: For every incorrect response, 0.33 marks will be deducted as negative marking in the examination
• SSB Interview: After clearing the written test, candidates have to go through the SSB Interview. The SSB procedure consists of two stage selection process-Stage I and Stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for Stage II.

CDS/OTA Written Exam Eligibility:
In order to become eligible to apply for CDS 1 candidate must meet one of the following nationality criteria:
- Candidates should be a resident of India, Nepal, Bhutan with proper documents.
- The age limit to apply for this exam is 19-25 years.
- A candidate can appear for CDS Exam, while he/she is appearing for the 3rd year of Graduation. Both Male and Female candidates can apply for CDS Exam.
- Female candidates can only apply for OTA (Officers Training Academy) which is a training establishment of the Indian Army that trains officers for the Short Service Commission.
- Interested candidates must be physically fit as per the physical standards.
- Male candidates can apply for NA, IMA, AFA, and OTA, and female candidates can apply only for OTA.
- The education qualification for CDS is as follows :
AFA – Candidates willing to apply for Air force academy should have studied Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level along with a degree from recognized university or bachelor degree in engineering /technology. Women candidates cannot apply for Air force academy.
IMA –Aspirants willing to apply for Indian military academy through CDS 1 2014 examination should have a degree from recognized university.
NA- Aspirants applying for Indian naval academy should have an engineering degree from any recognized university or institute
OTA- All other men candidates, as well as women candidates applying for the Officers training academy, should have a degree to qualify for minimum educational qualification required by UPSC to fill application form of CDS Exam.
