Common Written Examination (CWE) for Probationary Officers and Management Trainees in Banking Sector

Banking today is a highly sought after career option for students in the field of commerce and accounts. It is the first step towards understanding the economy and discovering the challenges of the financial market. Banking is a sector which is expanding in India at a very fast pace owing to the privatization of services. Banking jobs are highly rewarded financially even at entry level jobs. To work as a manager in the banking industry, the first stepping stone is becoming a Probationary Officer (PO). PO starts as a trainee officer in the Junior Management Grade Scale of the bank and can rise to the levels of General Manager, an Executive Director or even the Chairman of the Bank.
Various nationalized and Private banks conduct their own PO exams to recruit candidates. While different banks may have their own eligibility and selection criteria.
In India, graduates can enter in Banking Industry as Probationary Officers / Management Trainees. This examination is being conducted by IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection). IBPS is conducting this examination annually on a national level. The Common Written Examination (CWE PO/MT) is a pre-requisite for selection of personnel for Probationary Officer/ Management Trainee posts in the Participating Organizations listed below.
Candidates who appear for CWE PO/MT and shortlisted in the examination, are subsequently called for a Common Interview which is conducted by the Participating Organization. These interviews are coordinated by IBPS. Depending on the available vacancies, candidates shortlisted are allotted to one of the Participating Organizations.

Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Qualification
Minimum 60% marks for Science graduates (55% for SC/ST/PWD) and 55% for graduates in other streams (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate from a recognized University OR Any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Government of India with the same percentages as mentioned above. Candidates with additional qualifications, such as MBA, CA, CFA, MCA, etc. are preferred.
Age Requirement
Minimum age – 20 years and maximum age – 28 years.
Selection Procedure
The selection will be made on the basis of performance in the Written Test and Interview. The written test comprises an Objective section.

Scoring
Candidates are required to qualify in each objective test as per cut-off marks determined on the basis of aggregate group performance in each test, subject to a minimum of 40% marks (35% in case of SC/ST/OBC/PC candidates) in aggregate. Wrong answers in the objective test carry negative marks.
